Open to students who have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects, for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical/dental/AYUSH programs.

A single online application through the NTA's official NEET UG portal; conducted as one national-level exam per year in pen-and-paper mode (unlike JEE Main's computer-based format).

Exam pattern
A single pen-and-paper test with multiple-choice questions across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany + Zoology), conducted as one exam nationwide rather than across multiple sessions.
Marking scheme
Historically +4 for a correct answer and -1 for an incorrect one per question, though the exact scheme is confirmed afresh each year in NTA's official information bulletin.

What is NEET UG and who conducts it?
NEET UG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test — Undergraduate) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which invites applications, conducts the exam, declares results, and forwards the All-India Rank to the Directorate General of Health Services for MBBS/BDS/AYUSH admissions. NTA's role stops there — it does not run the seat-allocation counselling itself.
Is NEET UG an online or offline exam?
It's a pen-and-paper test, answered on a machine-gradable OMR sheet using a ball point pen — not a computer-based test.
Do I have to answer every question in the NEET UG exam?
Each of the four subjects has a compulsory Section A (35 questions) and an optional Section B (15 questions, of which only 10 need to be attempted). If you attempt more than 10 in Section B, only the first 10 you answered are evaluated.
Can I change my allotted exam centre or city after allotment?
No. Once allotted, the examination centre/city cannot be changed under any circumstances.
Can I cancel my NEET UG application after submitting it?
No. An online application, once submitted successfully, cannot be cancelled or withdrawn.
Who is eligible for the All India Quota (AIQ) medical seats?
Indian nationals, NRIs, OCI cardholders, and foreign nationals can compete for the 15% All India Quota seats, which are counselled centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) with no home-state/domicile restriction.
How do I get my NEET UG admit card?
Admit cards are not sent by post — download it from the official NTA/NEET website once released. Contact the NTA helpline if it isn't available when expected.
